This blog is authored by scholars of American literature from the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century. We're interested in how novelists, poets, playwrights, essayists, and filmmakers imagined the American experience and the human experience.
The title invokes controversies in the universities during the early-20th century concerning the relevance, significance, and meaning of "American Literature." It connotes the centrality of American identity and culture to the field and its ambivalent relationship to British literature and the English language while also insisting on a playful irony with respect to nationalist sentiments of which we, as Christian academics, are skeptical.
